The coveted event and gold bracelet of any poker players’ dream is the World Series of Poker Main Event. Though the 2020 WSOP Main Event is nine months away, WSOP.com is already creating avenues for players to qualify for the event. $215 satellite games in New Jersey and Nevada have guaranteed at least one seat for the Main Event.
The poker world has been cheering for more and WSOP.com did just that by qualifying players much earlier in the year on online platforms. The idea behind the satellites is to channelize more players to stand a chance to play in events that they may otherwise not have. Players who manage to win a satellite get a $10,000 seat to the 2020 Main, however, this does not include their airfare and accommodation.
WSOP.com plans on adding a few more satellites to the list on receiving a positive response online says Danielle Barille, WSOP.com’s Senior Manager of Product and Operations. Barille admits that it could include more mega-satellites right after the one they run every summer that allows 25 players to qualify for the Main Event.
Taking a look back at the 2019 WSOP Main event, it has the second-largest field of all time, falling 204 short of the invincible 2006 Main Event that drew 8,773 players. By introducing satellites the chances are 2020 is going to have a massive turnout by far and could easily be breezing past the 10,000 player mark!
