Baazi Super Sundays have always attracted massive fields of players to try their hand at a piece of the massive 25 LAC guaranteed prize pool on offer. In recent news, the BSS 15L guaranteed event, which serves as the featured event of the BSS series every week, got an upgrade. The company announced that the event will see an increase in guarantee to INR 25 LAC, while the buy in of the event remains at INR 5,500.

Last night we saw the first BSS 25 LAC guaranteed event being played out on PokerBaazi, and coming out on top of a massive field of pros, amateurs and recreational players was Delhi-based Laksh Pal Singh. The youngster plays as “boomtlt123” on PokerBaazi.com and took home a massive payday of INR 5.09 LAC after defeating a star studded field of 287 players.

Singh has turned quite a few heads in recent times, having recorded several big scores in his short poker career. He gave up a good job to take up the sport full time, and spends plenty of time studying the game off the felts. In an exclusive with IPN, Singh talks about what his poker journey has been like so far and all that he has learnt along the way.

Hi Laksh, and a big Congratulations! Tell us a little about yourself!

Thank you! Well, I was born and brought up in Delhi, and I studied BCOM honors at Shri Ram College of Commerce. I had a good accounting job at Grant Thornton which I gave up a couple of years ago to pursue poker. I’m a complete sports fanatic, avid traveler, and a sucker for good food! I live in Delhi now and spend most my time either studying or playing the game. Then again, there’s always time for a good party!

True! What about your poker story – Where did it all begin?

I actually got into poker only 2 years ago. I started off playing small cash games with my friends, but it didn’t take long to get into the MTT circuit. This was majorly due to my close friend Sahil Mahboobani, who played the vital role of a mentor all through the early stages of my poker career. Being a numbers guy and having an accounting background, I was obviously extremely intrigued by the sport and before I knew it, there was no looking back.

What about the event? How did it all go down and what did you think of the revamped structure and beefier prize pool?

I have to say I’m really impressed by the new structures that Baazi have introduced from the start of this year. Navi and Varun Ganjoo are constantly working hard to ensure the best user experience. I like the new stack depth and I was very satisfied with average stack during late stages of the tournament. They were not shallow and there was a high amount of playability.

One major spot I remember was with 15 left I had opened 77 utg and faced a small 3 bet, had good odds to call and a massive stack behind. Flopped the nuts on 766 against KK. From there I think I was cruising

Great! You’ve been making quite an impression in the domestic poker circuit, any particular strategy?

Long poker sessions can be physically and mentally taxing. Almost every Sunday we spend a good 12 hours plus grinding. The strategy I follow is to obviously get good rest before a Sunday, stay hydrated, eat well, you know, the standard stuff. But another thing I follow on a Sunday is to not crowd up my screen with everything. There’s way too much to play and I just choose the best 5-6 tourneys and focus on those. I feel like that’s helped me a lot lately as I can focus more and autopilot less.

What are your thoughts on poker in India and the recently launched 2 Crore GTD tournament The Game Changer?

Poker is growing so fast in the country it’s unbelievable. I feel that Baazi has really upped their game over the last year to be one of the leading players in the industry. I think they’ve created a lot of excitement by announcing India’s biggest online MTT till date- The Game Changer. Shipping that would definitely be a game changer haha! Kudos to the Baazi team for providing more and more value to the players. Looking forward to the tournament! #Indiasmosttrustedsite

And finally, any last words for our readers?

Shout out once again to the Baazi team. They are constantly striving towards improving in every aspect, so just do what you’re doing guys! #Trusttheprocess

Lastly I’d like to thank my stable AceJack for believing in me as a professional. Shout out to a few guys – Kartik Ved, Ashish Munot and Sahil Mahboobani, my family and friends for their constant support. #Bajo
