Team IPN caught up with the youngster following his incredible achievement, here’s what he had to say:

Congratulations Nitish! Could you tell us a little about yourself?

Thank you! I’m 27 and dropped out in my first year of college to take up poker full time. I initially started off by playing Sit’N’Gos, and slowly moved on to multi-table tournaments. Over the past 4 years or so, I’ve also been grinding cash games both live and online. I was born and brought up in Kolkata, and am presently based in Colombo.

What about The MoneyMaker? How did it all happen?

Well it’s a funny story really! I registered for the event thinking it was The Game Changer – with a 2 Crore Guarantee, only to find out later that it was The Moneymaker! Right from the start it was fortunately smooth sailing for me, and when I got to the Final Table I has a healthy stack and was running 2/9. My good continued and I found myself Heads-Up with “Versutus”. At one point I had a 4:1 chip lead over him, and that’s where it turned. I lost a few hands and suddenly my opponent had a 2:1 lead over me. Eventually though, the cards fell my way and I ended up taking it down!

Incredible! What are your views on online poker in India and

Poker is growing very fast in India. Online operators are doing a phenomenal job promoting the game through plenty of high-value tournaments.

PokerBaazi to me is just absolutely World Class! Amazing interface, which is in fact better than most International brands. On top of that, Navkiran Singh and his team are doing such an amazing job of improving every single day. It’s really commendable!

And lastly Nitish, any advice when it comes to poker?

Well I would say go out there and enjoy the game! Keep making mistakes, but keep learning and keep improving every day!

Thank you for your time Nitish, and we wish you the very best!
