India’s first online poker university
Poker takes a day to learn, but a lifetime to master! With the felts attracting more gamers, the competition has only got fiercer in the Indian subcontinent. At this juncture, it is crucial for players to equip themselves with tips and strategies that keep them ahead of the game.
While there are tons of online courses and material to self equip, the personal touch of a mentor and a professional institute is something the market is missing. Tapping into this gap is lifestyle brand Big Stacks who’ve decided to launch India’s very first online Poker University sometime in October.
Registering with the university unlocks training from the top 20 poker pros of the industry. Rai Sahib Khurrana along with partners Ritesh Tanu and Sunny Kochar who founded the Poker University are backed by angel investors from the Signature Group. The founders are also in talks with poker federations to get official certifications for leaning poker. The venture is determined to make poker more accessible for those who wish to benefit from the skill-based game.
Roland Landers, CEO, All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) added that education in poker is extremely necessary for a country like India, where the masses misinterpret all card games to be the same, which is unlikely in the case of poker. Poker involves hours of learning, hand analysis and understanding an opponent’s body language and strategy. “Hence creating more knowledge around the sport of poker would definitely help in the emphasizing its position as a skill.” quotes Landers
India is not too far from accepting the game as a career option and the subject of poker will soon be a key component of the curriculum in top management schools. In fact, IIM Kozhikode professor Deepak Dhayanithy teaches a class on competition strategy using the game of poker. Educating Indians about the skill game of poker will also lead to responsible gaming, which is the need of the hour.
Responsible gaming is key to the growth of any sport. It is extremely important for a player to understand his/her limitations on a table, bankroll management, position on the table and the way to play the game, and most importantly ensuring the purity of the game is retained!
To the power of knowledge!
