PokerBaazi’s Grinders Series concluded with its January edition, and the series lived up to its trend of being an ideal ground for new and upcoming talent to flourish. One such name is Kunal Agarwal, winner of the Baazi Grinders Series Main Event. Kunal overcame a field of 290 entrants including 59 re-entries and won himself a hefty chunk of INR 1,11,650 out of the INR 5,80,000 prize-pool. Team IPN caught up with the youngster who takes great inspiration from this win.
Hi Kunal, a big congratulations on the win! Could you tell us a little about yourself and how you were introduced to the sport?
Hi guys, my name is Kunal Agarwal, and I am currently in my fourth year pursuing B.E. I started off playing live poker with friends in my hostel, playing 50 Rs. buy-ins and noobs as we were, considered QKA23 to be a straight! I was introduced to PokerBaazi by my seniors Vaibhav Saigal and Kanishk Upreti. Surely we’ve come a long way since then but the journey ahead is even longer.
What about your preference? What games do you tend to play and enjoy more?
I am primarily a cash game player, and am currently learning PLO under the guidance of Mr. Abhishek Rathod. I occasionally play small buy-in MTTs on Baazi, and this win is very special for me. Hopefully I will be playing a lot more MTTs this year.
Yes, it was a pretty large field. Tell us about the tournament and your journey to pole position.
I loved the tournament structure, and the guarantee was crushed even before the tournament started. I don’t remember too many tough spots, probably I was lucky not to face many. There was one hand when I called my stack off with AT on Ace, low low low, two tone board against an EP open, it was a close one but fortunately the opponent had A9 and we held. The rest of the tournament was a smooth sail. I was HU with a very good reg adit11 but I won the second flip without many efforts.
What did you think of the incredible year that was 2017, and what 2018 could possibly hold in store for poker?
2017 was a great year for the sport, and was my best year in poker so far. I am feeling positive about my game, there is a lot to learn and I hope 2018 has a lot more in store for me, it is definitely a great start. Massive tournaments like The MoneyMaker are no more a dream, and I am looking forward to the upcoming edition later this month.
Any last words before signing off?
Just wanted to thank PokerBaazi and say kudos to the team, look forward to bigger better things this year! PokerBaazi has always been generous with the promotions. Summer carnival was one of the best, would love to see it again. The interface is definitely the best, I’ll choose it over any other site any day. Very well done with the home manufactured client.
