If the Game of Thrones characters were to play a Game of Poker
The fan throbbing fantasy TV series Game of Thrones will finally release its six-episode long Eight and Final season on April 14th. This means that the ultimate fate of Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and the rest of the Westerosi will be revealed to! While we wait for the final showdown with fueling speculations, we thought we’d try and figure how characters from the GoT would fair on the poker felts!
Let’s just say our money is not on this one. Known for his impulsive decisions and loyalty to others, he’d seem the kind to snowball the entire table. He’d play tight and his swings will have the subtlety of a wrecking ball.
Daenerys Targaryen would be a perfect fit on the international circuit. Her ability to learn any language in a couple of hours is why we think so! For heaven’s sake she speaks dragon and could be spewing some fire on the poker table!
Targaryen’s charming ability might help her get into the heads of her opponents on the table and that should have her collecting some chips. However, it might take her a while to be playing some high stakes games.
Tyrion Lannister is the underdog, or so he makes everyone believe. Poker players on the table will certainly underestimate him! However, getting to the numbers, Lannister should be a great poker player. Reason be two fold, one: He has the bankroll to be playing the highest stakes games, second: a Lannister always pays his debts! As long as the blondes and ales are kept at bay in casinos, this horse will be winning you some money!
Seriously, someone tell us he has the best poker face! He gives away nothing! Being the commander of the Unsullied, this man has got his emotions in firm control and will have tilts coming Your way! On the flipside, Grey Worm plays by the rules and will play tight and rarely bluff. In addition, like all Unsullied, Grey Worm’s castration as a boy did result in hormonal changes, you get the drift on the table right..?
The perfect poster boy for poker; good looking, controversial and extremely loyal! Jaime Lannister is head strong and short-tempered and that could certainly have him tilting on the felts – not the best trait for a poker player to have! Don’t forget to shout ‘king slayer’ every time a king hits the flop!
Known as the ‘master of whisperers’ Varys would certainly come into the game armed with the most information on his opponents thanks to the tweets from his little birds. Considering he is a master of disguises and can change his appearances, gait, smell and costume he’s going to have new poker faces to beat everytime!
His meta-game and strategic plays will be far superior to everyone’s. Varys is the perfect poker player because he can’t be tilted, and he knows the importance of pushing aside instant gratification for long-term gain.
Petyr ‘Little Finger’ Baelish is the most well-equipped poker player in all of Westeros, and you just know that the highest stakes games are going to be played out in his gaff. He’s got the apt screen name for a game of poker too. Being the former Master of Coin, he understands the art of bankroll management.
Arya Stark gained her independence at a very young age. With a sharp mind, wit, and tongue, she’s got the traits of a poker player rising up stakes to find value.
She also understands the power of finding a mentor and people will be bamboozled by her many styles thanks to her tutelage under the Many-Faced God, where she also gained experience playing blind.
“When you play a game of thrones you win or you die” ― George R.R. Martin. Let’s hope there’s no bloodshed over this game of poker!
