Chow Cliff bags Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taiwan Main Event

The Asia Poker Tour made its first visit to Taiwan and has poker fans engrossed with some world-class live poker! The series that began on the 20th of February finally concluded with its infamours Main Event (buy-in TWD 3300) on Sunday. The Main event saw three starting flights attracting a total of 523 players and a prize pool of TWD 15,219,300.

The event played out for six days and it was Chow Ciff of Hong Kong who sealed the deal following a heads up deal with Alan King Lun Lau. This will be Chow’s first title and a whopping payout of TWD 2,443,800.

The final table was dominated by the pros from Hong Kong including the likes of Alan Lau, Co Chung Chuen, Lo Hung Leuk, Kwok Chun Kong and off course the champion, Chow Cliff. However, it was UK based James Jagger who was in the chip lead at the start of the final table. Following not too far behind was Cliff who ended up busting James with his pocket kings. Cliff then busted Wan Wei (only Taiwanese represent) in 8th place with his ace-king crushing Han’s ace-eight.

The next to be eliminated was Kwon Chung Kong, who went out to Co Chung Cheun’s pocket sevens and had to settle for 7th. Li Min Jie was the next to exit in 6th as Lau’s pocket nine won the flip against the former’s ace-queen. Cliff then went onto send 3 other players home namely, Lo hung Leuk, Jeonggyu Cho and Co Chung Cheun, taking 5th to 3rd places respectively.

Heads-up play filtered down to Cliff and fellow comrade Alan King Lau. Cliff was a little short-stacked and agreed for an ICM deal with Lau claiming a larger share of the payout. Couple of hands later, Cliff clinches a must needed double up, turning the game around. As they battled it off and the final hand was played, it was Cliff’s Ad, 5s that withstood Laus Ac, 8h after the board ran 5d, 10s and Qd.
