The Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player’s results over six half-year periods. Here’s a look at the top 10 Ladies 2019 Player of the Year standings and the Overall Ladies GPI rankings as of March 2019.
Kristen Bicknell, Maria Ho and Maria Lampropulos sit strong in the top three spots seeing no change in the overall Ladies GPI standings. However, there are some interesting movements in the Ladies POY list. While Bicknell and Sosia Jiang still hold the top two positions, a few new faces have made their way to the list and could be serious competition!
We are almost into the fourth month of the year and with a lot of poker tournaments up for grabs, there are ladies already creating waves in the standings.
Name: Natalie Teh
Young and fresh onto the felts with just over a year of regular tournaments in the circuit, Natalie has become a force to reckon with. She has some outstanding finishes in some of the biggest global poker events including her best score of $57,010 resulted from finishing 120th in last year’s WSOP Main Event and her seven cashes so far in 2019, propelling her to the fifth position in the Ladies POY standings.
Name: Sasha Liu
Sasha Liu is known for her pot-limit Omaha cash game skills, often seen put to use in Vegas, where she resides. However, with a little more focus on tournaments (PLO and NLH) she began seeing her fair share of success. Liu cashed at the PCA, two cashes in Venetian DeepStack events, and four cashes at The Wynn including shipping a $400 PLO side event. She is now seventh on the Ladies POY list.
Name: Sherry Hammers
Sherry Hammers is the next star in the rising with just a few deep runs in mid-stake tour main events. The most recent being a 15th-place finish in the WSOP Circuit Rio Main Event and her best cash to date is $45,198 for a third-place finish in the $1,100 MSPT Minnesota Main Event. With this moment, all eyes are on Sherry to rock the POY ranks where she currently finds herself in 10th.
