Greece’s Ioannis Angelou-Konstas Wins partypoker Live Millions UK Main Event
This was a colossal one, a main event with a £5,300 buy in, 1015 entries and a £5,000,000 gaurantee! Yes, we are talking about the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK series that just crowned its main event winner!
With a staggering number of entries, the field witnessed five full days of poker to finally narrow down to just one player, Ioannis Angelou-Konstas. He walked out with £940,000 ($1,222,000 USD), the tournament title and 1920 Card Player of the Year points! In March he took down the €1,200 WPT DeepStacks event in Brussels, must say he’s been having a great year so far. With these wins he jumps to the 56th place in the POY standings and has a total of 2400 points.
Konstas was not the horse that everyone had their eyes on at the beginning of the tournament but his game did get everyone watching. He entered the final day as the chip leader, but with a star-studded playing field, it was not going to be a piece of cake for him. The final table included the likes of 2013 World Series of Poker main event champion Ryan Riess (9th – $65,000), Dara O’Kearney (8th – $91,000), bracelet winner Michael Wang (6th – $182,000), Sam Grafton (5th – $267,605), Tom Hall (4th – $390,000) and recent WSOP main event ninth-place finisher Antoine Labat (3rd – $572,000).
Konstas played the field out and then went onto to face his heads up opponent Alex Foxen. The two struck a deal that left them playing for £100,0000 and the title. Foxen raised with pocket eights and Konstas called with Qc Jh, the flop ran Ad Kd 4c and Konstas called Foxen’s 13,000,000. Both the players checked the 3h on the turn. The 10s on the river completed Konstas’ straight that made him go all in on Foxen’s 46,000,000 bet. Foxen’s under-pair didn’t hold good and he had to settle for £720,000 ($936,000 USD) and the second place.
This gave Foxen 1600 points to add to his POY standing and a jump to the 4th place with 6364 points! Foxen has definitely aced the felts with 13 final table appearances, four titles to his name and $3,921,470 in earnings for the year. A player to watch out for in the POY race!
