Will Pengelly ships WinStar River Poker Series Main Event
20 year-old Will Pengelly skipped class and boy was it the best thing he did! The University of North Texas student decided to take the day off and enroll himself into the $2,500 Main Event at the WinStar Series, finishing on top of the field after a 5-way chop, taking home a massive $249,310.
Will is a regular cash game player, and believed that tournaments are more like a lottery. Well, we’re sure his love for tournaments had taken quite the twist now! After quite a rollercoaster ride through the earlier stages of the event, Will managed to chip up when it mattered the most and saw his hands hold in crucial situations. This saw short stacked Will move from a shoving stack to one of the biggest in the room within minutes.
With 5 players left, the clock was paused and ICM chip chop numbers were brought out. The players quickly agreed and Will, who was in the lead, received the biggest chunk of the remaining prize pool. They resumed play with the bracelet on the line, with Will sealing the deal in under an hour. Will plans to put away most of his winning into the bank, and is extremely excited about visiting Vegas for the WSOP next year – especially since he will be of age by then!
