Wilson Lim Wins APPT Manila Main Event
The APPT Manila Main Event attracted a total of 1364 players with its ₱20 Million guaranteed glamour at the City of Dreams Manila Resort and Casino. It was Wilson Lim who withstood and topped the field to take home the prestigious APPT Main Event Trophy, a whopping ₱12,970,000 first place prize, and the PSPC Platinum Pass worth $30,000 USD. The road to victory wasn’t all that easy with Lim having a heated heads-up battle with runner-up Yuan Chao Li, who also received a sizeable ₱7,960,000 for his efforts.
Final Table Results:
|2||Yuan Chao Li||China||₱7,960,000||$149,334|
|4||Samuel Welbourne||United Kingdom||₱3,438,000||$64,500|
|5||Jiang Ho Huang||Singapore||₱2,318,000||$43,487|
|8||Kenny Shih||United States||₱1,205,000||$22,606|
The players dropped relatively fast through the final day and play tightened up only when the tournament progressed to the final table. It was Li who took advantage of the situation and went super aggressive all the way until heads up play, raising every opportunity and making his dominance felt.
Li moved all in for the last time during this tournament at the beginning of level 37. Lim called the all in. Lim’s A5 had Li beat. As cards drew out, it was Lim’s flush that earned him the pot and the first place finish.
When asked how he felt about winning the largest Main Event of the APPT, Lim said: “I have been playing poker for about 10 years now, it was about one or two years in that I started to realize poker was more than just gambling and I can improve myself. After a few years I started improving and now I earn most of my money just from poker.”
