The Sports Authority of India (SAI) launched its first-of-its-kind mobile application, ‘Khelo India App’. An app aimed at creating awareness about sports and fitness in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the Khelo India Mobile App at the Youth Indian Parliament in Vigyan Bhawan.
The app aims to develop a fitness culture among the masses as well as help the youth reach their sporting dreams with right kind of information. A number of athletes have been provided with opportunities at grass root levels through the Khelo India competitions organized. It is also working towards making India a sporting giant across all sporting disciplines.
The app as we come to understand stands out for its three unique features. The first section has general information about rules and regulations of 18 sporting disciplines. The second part is where users can access an exhaustive repository of data of sporting facilities across the country. The list includes all SAI facilities, SAI supported facilities and private facilities. This way, youngsters are aware of the sporting facilities available in their hometowns and can make maximum use of it.
The third and final section is the most promising one that helps map the basic fitness levels of young children across schools in India. It is said to have eight tests that help ascertain not jus the fitness level of a child, but also help determine the best suited sporting discipline for the child to excel in. What’s more? Physical education teachers and parents can feed this data onto the application and help propel their child’s sporting career.
The application is available in both Hindi and English. Keeping in mind the access to basic Internet in remote areas, the app once downloaded can be used without Internet. With the performance of Indian athletes on the world stage coming leaps and bounds, applications like these will certainly help the nation maximize it’s sporting talents and help the youth achieve their sporting dreams.
