When you are a high profile sports person, schedules are hectic and you are on the go on most days, away from your loved ones. Popularly known as WAGS, Wife and Girlfriend of high profile sports persons, were allowed to accompany their better half as they toured for their games up until now.
In the light of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, rules have been amended in with the intention of helping players focus on their game. The Pakistan Cricket Board has banned the wives and family members of their national team players from traveling with them throughout the duration of the World Cup in England this year.
Team members have been requested to make their own arrangements for their family members who wish to accompany them during the event. The PCB is said to have made an exception for Haris Sohail on personal grounds and the new policy will be applicable for all their players.
Moving to the subcontinent, the BCCI has also issued a similar rule for the Indian team members with a few alterations. The players’ immediate families will be allowed to spend only 15 days during the month-and-a-half-long world cup schedule. The 15 days is also permissible only after the first 20 days of the tournament. In addition, the WAGs of Indian cricketers will not be allowed to travel in the team bus but in a separate bus or private transport as they prefer.
Despite half of the selected team being married, they had to all fall in line with the new policy. Wishing the team the very best. While their WAGS may not be present, they certainly have the support of the entire nation!
